As we live in the midwest, so our selection is always varied based on our local supplier. Rather than the brand, I often select nori based on the crispiness (texture) and the sheen for each type of sushi or sometimes out of convenient.
I do find that Takaokaya’s premium line of Nori(in golden packaging)) has amazingly shining black sheen and crispiness level rank from 1 to 3, for compatible w/ Thick roll, onigiri or Tamaki respectively. Their premium nori is on par in quality, if not better, in freshness and melt-in-the-mouth compared to most sushi restaurants.
